Tim Pogorelc, son of owners Barbara and Bob Pogorelc, began handcrafting fine jewelry in his West Barnstable home over 2 years ago. His passion for the art led to the growth of his own business, TiPo Designs, and eventually to the ownership of the South Dennis Crystal Pineapple store, where his studio is now located.

Each piece of jewelry is handcrafted on Cape Cod with impeccable care and the utmost attention. Tim’s designs feature nautical Cape Cod themes such as scallop shells, starfish, seahorses, sand dollars, Nantucket baskets and many more. Nine Days That Changed the World

My husband, Bob and I viewed the new film produced by Newt and Callista Gingrich of Pope John Paul II titled Nine Days That Changed the World.

Bob is engaged in a conversation with Newt at the film viewing in Naples Florida on Sunday, April 18. The movie was hosted by Ave Marie School of Law located in Naples.

Greta Van Susteren interviewed the Gingrich Couple. Thought you would fine it interesting how one man was instrumental in overthrowing the Soviets.

Where did the idea of Tear Bottles begin? It began in ancient history. "The history of the tear bottle is captivating and poignant. Legends of tear bottles or lachrymatories abound in stories of Egypt and middle eastern societies. Tear bottles were prevalent in ancient Roman times, when mourners filled small glass vials with tears and placed them in burial tombs as symbols of love and respect." Tear bottles have been used for thousands of years.

This old tear bottle is similar to one that I purchased in Israel about 25 years ago and it was authenticated to be about 2,000 years old!!!

SIOBHAN MAGNUS IN "ACROSS THE UNIVERSE"

Wow! American Idol star Siobhan Magnus from Cape Cod sings "Across the Universe". It was a soft and gentle presentation of a Beatles song.

Siobhan Magnus comes from a large musical family on Cape Cod has shown her talent since she was in grade school. Her father who is disabled from a trucking accident comes from a family of ten and her mother (from a family of six) has recently been laid off. Growing up they would get together sometimes to have fun the home of retired Judge Joseph Reardon who is Siobhan Magnus's grandfather.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Florida

Yesterday, my husband and I spent the afternoon at the wonderful Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary located near Naples, Florida. It is operated by the Audubon Society. We came across some awesome wildlife and want to share some of our photos with you. We observed this bird catch and devour this large frog in no time at all.

Corkscrew has been designatged as a "Wetland of International Importance" in 2009 by Ramsar--an International Organization that recognizes"Wetlands of International Importance". It supports "plant and/or animal species at critical stages in their life cycle"

The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is home to Cypress trees 500 years old! Not only were the centuries old trees interesting but we saw other vegetation and wildlife that fascinated us. There were cypress treess that had Strangler Fig growth growing up them. The Strangler Fig is interesting because it does not begin its growth from the ground up. The Strangler Fig starts its life when a bird drops a seed into a crevice and then is starts its growth upwards and downwards to make roots in the ground where it takes nutrients and then begins to strangle the tree. Eventually when the tree is strangled, the empty nooks and crannies create a home to thousands of creatures.

I love to get good photos of insects--here we have a Dragonfly alighting on a twig. Look at his beautiful transparent wings! I also followed this grasshopper around for a while to catch him resting on a branch.

Threre were many flowers blooming at the Sanctuary. Here is a lovely Water Iris that is just waiting to to immortalized. I am absolutely in love with air plants. Wherever you looked in the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary you could fine countless species of air plants. This blooming air plant is my favorite. Air plants usually grow on trees and get their nutrition and support by clinging to the host.

Let us not forget about the alligators. We did not see a lot of them, but here is a big daddy enjoying the sun.

We found the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary to be a wonderfully peaceful place to spend an afternoon. The guests were very respectful of the environment which was such a joy. The air was filled with the fragrant scent of flowers. This was my second visit to the Sanctuary and found it even more enjoyable the second time around.

Siobhan Magnus Does It Again

Siobhan Magnus our Cape Cod darling does it again on American Idol. This 20 year old Barnstable High Graduate who is apprenticing at Morrison Glass Studio in Hyannis made the Top 10 on American Idol on Wednesday singing Stevie Wonder's Superstition.
Siobhan Magnus hit another home run in her appearance on American Idol. Her rendition of Superstition won her a place in the Top 10. The Top 10 guarantees her a place to tour with American Idol.
Family and friends cheered Siobhan on Tuesday at the Steak House and Sports Bar in Hyannis.

Who is Cape Cod's American Idol Sweetheart?

Siobhan Magnus, our own Cape Cod American Idol lives and works not far from The Crystal Pineapple. Siobhan Magnus was a knockout tonight on American Idol. Siobhan was praised by Simon Cowell. Kudos from the other judges also for Siobhan. Siobhan's great notes will be remembered for a long time.

Siobhan Magnus is 19 years old and grew up in Marstons Mills and attended Barnstable High School on Cape Cod. While in the fourth grade she played the part of Annie in the school play. She also performed at Barnstable High School in Barnstable, Massachusetts.
